Sector LULUCF and its contribution to the Kyoto Protocol commitments in the Czech RepublicMinistry of Environment, Czech RepublicIFER - Institute of Forest Ecosystem Research, Jílové u Prahy, Czech Republic
The Czech Republic must revise its emission inventory in the LULUCF (Land Use, Land-use Change and Forestry) sector according to the newly adopted Good Practice Guidelines (GPG) for LULUCF (IPCC 2004). By 2006, countries must take important decisions concerning emission inventory in the LULUCF sector, with consequences for the 1st and (likely also following) Kyoto Protocol commitment periods. These are the commitments of signatory countries under United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Kyoto Protocol. The aim of the project is the interpretation and specification of the UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol in light of the GPG LULUCF. The goal is to provide easy orientation in the issues of LUUCF emission inventory, analysis of GPG-LULUCF to improve emission inventory in the sector taking into consideration the recent suggestions of the UNFCCC control process. The project also includes an assessment of afforestation/reforestation of agricultural land in the country in relation to the Kyoto Protocol requirements.
